Meet Our Angels: A Decade in the Alps with Tim Smith
Category: > | 15th Jun, 2026
At France Property Angels, our team is made up of dedicated professionals who know their regions inside out and bring a wealth of experience to the table.
This week, we are sitting down with one of our long-standing property experts, Tim Smith, to look back on his journey, his approach to clients, and what it takes to navigate the premium real estate market in the French Alps.
From managing the unexpected challenges of a global pandemic to the daily joys of matching buyers with their dream mountain homes, Tim shares an authentic look at life as an alpine estate agent.
How have you found your first 11 years in estate agency?
Having started this role in my mid 20’s and matured with the job, the last decade has been fantastic. Being able to meet new people all the time, and to be trusted in handling the buying and selling of some of the world's most sought after properties in one of the world's most beautiful places, is a privilege.
What’s been your proudest moment or biggest highlight since joining the team?
Not one particular proudest moment, but when clients thank you at the end of their journey, be that for buyers or sellers, it gives me a real sense of pride knowing I’ve done the job well, as well as keeping a good and trusted relationship with the client going forward.
What have you enjoyed learning the most?
In general, all of it. You never stop learning as the market and clients keep evolving.
What has been your biggest challenge so far?
Covid was a bit difficult as clients weren’t able to travel to view properties therefore most people were reluctant to buy however, some did. To overcome a fairly stagnant period of time by employing different marketing and sales techniques was a big accomplishment.
What is always in your car when you are doing viewings?
Diesel, not a good look if you run out!
What is the most unusual property feature you’ve seen?
A well stocked gun room. Guns sold separately!
What’s one thing people don’t realise about estate agency?
We actually know what your property is worth, not what you think it’s worth!!
Give us three words to describe your approach with clients?
Honesty, Ability to listen, Empathetic.
Tell us something that has surprised you about being an estate agent?
It doesn’t happen very often but when you’re sure a buying client will make an offer on a certain property, and they throw you by offering on something that is the complete opposite of the brief they gave you. Even with the experience I've garnered over the years, you can still be taken by surprise.
Finally, what are you most looking forward to over the next year?
Seeing what the market will do, up or down it doesn’t matter, it always brings a fresh look, fresh clients and a fresh approach to estate agency in my little corner of the Alps.
