40km to the west of the capital of the Gard and 20 km upriver from Sommieres lies the pretty medieval village of Sauve.

Sauve used to be a fortified town. A castle, that once was the summer retreat of the bishops of Maguelone, still presides over the village. The old town is a maze of twisting alleys, some of which are covered. The view from the other side of the bridge over the Vidourle is inspiring.

Sauve is village of Languedoc Roussillon with 1900 inhabitants situated 20 km from Nimes, 63 km from Montpellier and one hour from the sea. You will find the main facilities and services in Sauve including nursery and primary schools. The village holds a weekly market on Saturday mornings. In recent years some new restaurants and cafes have opened and an annual African music festival is organized in mid-July.

Whatever the season, Sauve is a great starting point for many outdoor activities such as such climbing, canoeing on the Vidourle, mountain-biking, horse-riding and fishing.
